We’ve mentioned co-washing on our Facebook and Twitter pages before and we've seen where some ladies have never heard of it – so we thought we would take a minute to explain. Co-washing, which is short for conditioner washing, is simply a hair cleansing method using conditioner instead of shampoo. Many natural ladies prefer co-washing to shampooing because conditioner moisturizes and hydrates their curls making a ‘wash-and-go’ simple. This method, however, can be used on relaxed and chemically processed hair as well.
Co-washing follows the same process as shampooing the hair, though you cannot expect much lather (if any) from a conditioner. Co-washing can be done every day using a moisturizing conditioner because it penetrates moisture into the hair shaft, eliminating dry, brittle hair. While some ladies choose a “no-poo regimen” (which consists of only co-washing and never using a shampoo), if you want a thorough cleanse, co-washing probably won’t be as effective as shampooing.
Co-washing is a great alternative to shampooing your hair every day and is a great regimen between shampoos. That said, Creme of Nature shampoos are gentle and moisturizing. In fact, some ladies use our shampoos without following up with a conditioner because they are so moisture rich and non-stripping. If you prefer a shampoo without sulfates, try our Creme of Nature with Argan Oil Moisture & Shine shampoo.
But let us know: do you co-wash? How often? Have you tried it with the Creme of Nature with Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment or any of our conditioners or treatments? Let us know!
